Chief Adrian Diaz has fired two Seattle police officers following a lengthy investigation into reports they had trespassed on the U.S. Capitol grounds during the violent insurrection on January 6. The Chief described the incident as a “violent, criminal riot” and took action after the SPD’s civilian-led Office of Police Accountability recommended the termination of both officers.
The Office of Police Accountability investigation cleared three other officers while the results were inconclusive for a fourth officer.
News outlets around the covered the firing, including The Washington Post and the BBC.
