The Seattle Council elections have made national headlines this year due in part to the large sums of money spent to support candidates in the seven races.
Public records from the city’s Ethics and Elections Commission show that donations to campaigns have exceeded $8 million including substantial donations from business groups and labor unions.
SCC Insight, an independent online site that focuses coverage on the council, recently posted the contributions and spending by the candidates. Candidates and their supporters know that available funds play a significant role in determining who can compete successfully for public office.
