Washington Retail has announced endorsements of three candidates in the seven Seattle City Council election races this year.

They are Jim Pugel in the District 7 race; Alex Pedersen who’s running in District 4; and Heidi Wills, a candidate in the District 6 race. All are challenging opponents for open seats.

The three have been interviewed and surveyed on retail issues by Renée Sunde, President and CEO; Mark Johnson, Senior VP of Policy & Government Affairs; and John Engber, the association’s Seattle contract lobbyist who is Director of the Retail Industry Coalition of Seattle.

This year’s races pit incumbents against challengers who maintain that the council is approving regulations and ordinances that do not sufficiently take the needs and challenges of businesses seriously enough to avoid perilous expenses. Washington Retail has worked to ensure that Seattle candidates are aware of the frustrations of small businesses and is prepared to advocate on their behalf.

Because four of the seven seats are open and the remaining three incumbents face challengers, the makeup of the council will change. Washington Retail will assess Tuesday’s results and lobbyist John Engber will explain possible outcomes during a Wednesday, Nov. 6 webinar starting at 9:30 a.m.
