Washington Retail has recently co-signed or endorsed letters to national leaders seeking action on matters important to retailers.

The requests include:

  • Asking the Federal Reserve Board of Governors to lower the current debit cap fee due to increased issuer costs, changes in fraud liability and the evolution of debit cards.
  • Asking U.S. Treasury Secretary Mnuchin and Federal Reserve Chairman Powell to create a financial relief fund for owners of commercial real estate damaged by financial impacts from the COVID-19 virus. A request letter coordinated by the International Council of Shopping Centers has been co-authored by Washington Congressman Denny Heck. Click here to join the letter.
  • Asking leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives to support enhancement to a relief bill to ease financial impact on retailers from the pandemic. It asks for support of H.R. 6776 that would expand the Employee Retention Credit so that retailers can continue to retain employees and pay their health care benefits until more recovery of the U.S. economy.
