US House passes the INFORM Consumers Act

The INFORM Consumers Act would protect consumers shopping on online marketplaces by requiring the platforms to collect certain information from high-volume third-party sellers of consumer products.

In response to the US House passing the bill last week, the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) Senior Executive Vice President of Public Affairs, Michael Hanson, offered his thoughts. In a written statement last week, Hanson said, “The INFORM Consumers Act, passed today as part of the America COMPETES Act, will establish transparency and accountability on online third-party marketplaces, making it more difficult for domestic criminals or foreign con artists to hide behind fake screen names to mislead consumers with fake or stolen products. Retailers have long advocated for these commonsense accountability measures, and we are thrilled to see it included in the COMPETES Act passed by the House today.”
