Washington State has no income tax and voters have rejected various forms of income taxes 10 times over the years.

Regardless, Senate bill 5096 would impose a capital gains tax that 49 other states treat as an income tax. In response, the Washington Policy Center has begun collecting a petition to influence a Legislature majority to oppose the bill as Washington Retail does. It would unfairly tax small business owners and reduce their retirement income when they sell their businesses and act as a disincentive for investment in Washington State.
