In an annual report, Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best said that there was a 5% reduction in major crime while 108 police officers were hired in 2019.

The department also reported a 9% reduction in robberies; a 3% reduction in aggravated assault; and a 5% reduction in burglary.

Among the 2020 goals mentioned by Chief Best were addressing organized retail theft, implementing cultural competency training, and reductions in motor vehicle thefts and home burglaries.

Media reports viewed the data with skepticism. Mynorthwest.com reported that crime reporting might be down because officers cannot answer all reports. Also, the report did not address how many officers resigned, retired or transferred to other departments or careers.
