Retail sales taxes increased 6.9 percent in third quarter of 2018

Retail sales increased 6.9 percent statewide in the third quarter of last year compared to the year before, the Revenue Department reported this week.

Sales at general merchandise stores increased 13 percent, to $2.7 billion of the total of $44.7 billion in taxable sales during the quarter.

Revenue attributed the bulk of the increase to strong sales in construction and new and used automobile sales.
