The proposed ban on plastic shopping bags in Washington State has been delayed at least until June 30 of this year.

The Legislature has concurred with Governor Inslee to delay the ban until an end to the coronavirus pandemic has been declared. However, HB 1053, if approved, would override the Governor and the ban would begin on June 30 of this year. The bill has been introduced into the House for consideration.

Under an earlier delay, the ban had been held off until the end of January of this year. That delay was related to a shortage of replacement bags for single-use plastic bags.
