On February 15, six weeks into his first term, Mayor Bruce Harrell delivered his first State of the City address. While the overall theme was unity, Harrell called for action on a wide range of issues, declaring that the “…status quo is unacceptable – that is the ONE AREA where we must all agree.“
The Mayor also discussed going back to the basics and doing them well. One of those basics is improving public safety. He discussed his “holistic” approach to public safety and committed to sharing more details about his public safety plan in the near future.
Homelessness is another issue the Mayor addressed, expressing his preference for a regional approach to housing the homeless. Stating that the “homelessness crisis must be treated like the crisis it is,” Harrell teased an upcoming announcement with King County Executive Dow Constantine and other regional leaders.
