Mayor Jenny Durkan has announced two initiatives to provide additional affordable housing for low and middle-income households and the homeless.

She announced:

  • Using new state financial resources to invest at least $50 million in housing for people experiencing homelessness
  • A proposal to the City Council to renew a multi-family tax exemption that currently provides rent to 4,500 low and middle-income households in private apartment buildings in neighborhoods across the city.

As Seattle’s economy has thrived, it has driven up living costs that have left some homeless and others unable to afford housing in the city.
