For the past two nights, Seattle’s KOMO TV aired a series on the extent of organized retail crime and what retailers are trying to do to control it.

During this session, Washington Retail backed House Bill 1159 that would have enabled law enforcement to curb this crime. It would have permitted store security to question shoppers known to be hiding merchandise before they leave a store. Though 36 other states have such a law, Washington State does not.

The bill failed to advance following a Wednesday deadline for the House to approve it and send it to the Senate for further review.
