Tolls for the new downtown tunnel start on Saturday.
Because motorists have been using the tunnel for free, the city expects more drivers to divert to surface streets to avoid paying. Tolls will range from $1 on nights and weekends to $2.25 each direction during the afternoon, peak traffic period.
Drivers can obtain a GoodtoGo pass for reduced toll rates. Learn more about that here. There are no toll booths at the tunnel. Instead, the tunnel portals have overhead detectors and cameras to record exiting vehicles. Without a GoodtoGo pass, drivers will be billed by mail with a $2 per trip surcharge.
