Consumers stock up on essentials during COVID-19, survey finds

The tracking app Shopkick has updated results of how consumers habits have changed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some of the key findings:

  • Shoppers are increasingly emphasizing essential items. The most popular are food and water, toiletries, cleaning supplies, soap and hand sanitizer, and medicine.
  • 60% said they are thinking less about non-essential items. Nearly as many, 59%, said they were more mindful of how much they were spending and sticking to a budget.
  • The most popular non-essential items were apparel, 58%, and restaurants and bars, 55%.
