King County and Seattle’s homeless population are not being overlooked in the campaign to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The county is guided, in part, by Centers for Disease Control guidelines on how to incorporate the homeless into the containment plan to not only prevent contracting the disease but also to limit spreading it.
King County Executive Dow Constantine explained the moves to mynorthwest.com:
- Many homeless sheltered in Seattle have been moved to a space at Boeing Field that allows more distancing.
- Leaving existing homeless camps in place to avoid residents moving around too much
- Homeless shelters are trying to put as much room between beds or cots as they can.
“We would love, of course, to have all 10,000 to 11,000 homeless people in individual units across the county and provided the services to keep them from becoming infected or infecting others,” Constantine said. “It’s not logistically possible right now.”
