A study commissioned by Uber has concluded that rush hour tolls in downtown Seattle could reduce travel times by 30%.
But Washington State Transportation Commission members warned that tolls could discourage shoppers and hurt downtown businesses, as well as discourage the recruitment of new businesses. Tolls approaching $4 are discussed within certain commute zones in downtown Seattle.
The study by ECONorthwest is part of a nationwide look at congestion tolling by Uber. The issue also is under consideration in Seattle City Hall.
The Lens, an online news source, covered a meeting where the study was discussed late last year. Read The Lens report here.
