Two Puget Sound area websites are quoting a Politico story about the possible growth of mandated scheduling ordinances such as Seattle’s across the nation.
A Washington Research Council blog includes comments from a spokeswoman for the Seattle Restaurant Alliance about the frustrations that Seattle’s two-year-old law has caused.
Spokeswoman Jacque Coe reports that managers complain of being weighed down with the law’s extensive paperwork. The rigid scheduling requirements also make it more difficult for workers to trade shifts when necessary. Employees who sought the formerly flexible schedules in retail now are frustrated with the new law, Coe said.
The state Legislature entertained a statewide mandated scheduling proposal that it elected not to adopt.
