This week, WR President/CEO Renée Sunde and Mark Johnson, Sr. VP of Policy & Government affairs met with top Senate leadership to discuss the upcoming 2022 Legislative Session, important issues, and the 2022 elections.

Senate Republican Leader John Braun (R-20) shared how the legislative session was shaping up for 2022. Committee hearings will remain remote, floor sessions will be in person for those that want to attend, and the public – including lobbyists – will be allowed in the galleries with a capacity of 12. Members will be able to hold meetings of up to 3 in their personal offices.

Senator Braun said he expects the crucial issues to be debated will include public safety, taxes, jobs, the long-term care program, transportation, and education.

To wrap up, we discussed the upcoming 2022 elections. Republicans hope to pick up several seats and position themselves for returning to the majority. The focus is on recruiting top-quality candidates, fundraising, and talking about the issues that matter to voters.

WR looks forward to working with Senator Braun and his caucus to ensure the retail industry is provided a welcoming environment to grow and thrive in Washington State.
