Now that the state is beginning to open with higher occupancy, L&I’s safety inspection is not letting up. To avoid rolling back or fines, the answer is to stay vigilant with employee training through an L&I approved training platform.

The Washington Retail Association offers a free web-based and smartphone app, COVID-19 training with 10 lessons. These lessons include videos and a quiz that covers:

  • general information about COVID-19
  • operation preparation checklists
  • employee health screenings
  • confirmed case procedures
  • personal protective equipment
  • masks
  • signage
  • HVAC systems, and
  • alternative options for customers

The SAFEME COVID-19 safety training certificates earned by employees are evidence of required safety training from employers. While geared towards retail, the topics are universal to many industries.

The free SAFEME app is available at www.wrasafeme.org and downloadable for Apple and Android phones through the app stores. A one-minute video about the course can be seen here.

SAFEME COVID-19 was funded in partnership with the Department of Labor & Industries for employer outreach and education. It is aimed at workers involved in retail stores, professional services, eating and drinking establishments.

Rick Means, WR’s Director of Safety & Education, is available to members to assist with L&I safety compliance, help drawing up safety plans and suggest topics for safety meetings. Contact him at 360-943-9198 x18, or [email protected]
