Washington Retail joined 160 businesses and organization last month in a letter appealing to President Trump to defer trade tariffs as part of financial relief necessary because of the COVID-19 virus outbreak.

This week, Trump announced he was deferring some duties for 90 days. The delay will help small businesses in particular and free up cash for companies that desperately need to remain afloat.

In a follow up statement this week, Americans For Free Trade in conjunction with the National Retail Federation thanked the President but noted that the deferment does not go far enough. Many companies still will owe significant tax amounts due to the partial deferral.
