State Sen. Barbara Bailey, R-Oak Harbor, has announced that she will retire on September 30 of this year.

Sen. Bailey was a strong friend of retailers and accumulated a voting record in complete agreement with the preferences of Washington Retail during the 2019 Legislative Session.

Republican leaders in Island, Skagit and Snohomish counties that Bailey has represented will confer to appoint her successor. Bailey cited a desire to pay more attention to family interests as a main reason for her retirement.

She served five terms in the House of Representatives and is in her second Senate term representing the 10th District. Bailey won her last election in 2016.
