Senator Ranker resigns amid conduct investigation

State Senator Kevin Ranker, D-Orcas Island, has resigned his seat in the midst of an investigation into sexual harassment charges and improper workplace conduct.

He submitted a letter to Governor Jay Inslee late last week.

In an emailed statement, Ranker apologized to a former female co-worker whose allegations triggered an investigation. The Senate hired an outside lawyer to investigate the allegations.

The Senate soon expects a report of findings from the investigation. Ranker acknowledged a brief prior relationship with his accuser. His successor on the Senate has not yet been named.
