Senator Guy Palumbo is leaving the Legislature to return to work for Amazon as the company’s director of public policy for Washington State. Prior to his election in 2016, Palumbo had been a senior manager for Amazon.

He has represented the 1st legislative district that includes parts of King and Snohomish counties including Kirkland, Bothell and Mountlake Terrace. Local Democratic party leaders will nominate three potential replacements before county councils from the two counties approve an appointee.

Palumbo told The Seattle Times that he eventually will have to register as a lobbyist. Read more. Crosscut carried a story about the resignation pointing out that in most states, Palumbo would have had to wait for a “cooling off period” before lobbying. Read it here.
