Step stools with handrails are safest

Retail is becoming a place where mature workers look as they desire to work longer in life.  Physical changes have taken place over the years and sometimes older workers need a slightly different tool to perform their job as well as their co-workers.

Changes in strength and balance can make falls more likely.  A tool that can help in this area is a step ladder with a handrail.  Having the ability to grasp a handle gives an employee additional support to be safe and handle merchandise.

Remember that most ladder accidents happen on the way down when an employee has not quite reached the bottom of the steps. A handrail provides an additional point of contact for steadiness that can help to prevent a fall.  It’s safer to use a step stool with a handrail than a plain model without handles.

RS SafetyTV has a selection of videos and SAFEME Essentials has a lesson on ladders.
