Public option health care would harm patients, study concludes

A government-run health care system would result in the loss of private coverage including from employers, a new study has concluded.

Details of the study are covered in a recent opinion piece in The Hill. Several Democrat candidates for President have stated that a public option could be a precursor to a single-payer health care program for the U.S.

The opinion piece is by Lauren Crawford, executive director of the Partnership for America’s Health Care Future, of which Washington Retail is a member. The partnership advocates strengthening what’s working in the nation’s current health care system while continuing to improve weaknesses in the current system.

Crawford’s essay also foresees that a public option could threaten the future of rural hospitals, increase costs to patients and result in longer waits for health care.
