The Seattle City Council has appointed Abel Pacheco Jr. to fill the seven months remaining on the term of Rob Johnson who has resigned to accept another job. Pacheco has said he does not intend to run for election to the District 4 seat.
Pacheco, 31, will lead a land-use committee and work on deciding the city’s next budget. He is the director of strategic engagement for a University of Washington STEM program that helps students of color pursuing careers in science and math.
District 4 includes Eastlake, Wallingford, the University District and Northeast Seattle. Pacheco said he would prioritize food banks and work on improving services for the homeless.
