The Paid Family Medical Leave premiums for the first two quarters of 2019 are due on July 31st (next Wednesday). This is the first-time premiums are due since this program’s effective date in January 1, 2019. All employers including out of state businesses, with employees in the state of Washington, are required to do so with a few narrow exceptions. Visit https://paidleave.wa.gov/reporting for instructions on reporting premiums.
Small businesses with less than 50 employees are not required to pay the employer portion, but are still required to remit their employees’ premiums. It is important to note that the employee number is based on your average employee headcount. On September 31, the Employment Security Department will calculate your business size for the 2020 reporting year by averaging numbers from your first two quarters reporting in 2019.
