Legislature has two special elections this year

Two special elections to serve 1-year unexpired terms are scheduled this year for two seats in the state Legislature.

Steve Verhey of Ellensburg has filed to oppose Representative Alex Ybarra for a seat to represent District 13 that includes Cle Elum, Ellensburg and Moses Lake.

Senator Elizabeth (Liz) Lovelett of Bellingham has five opponents heading toward the Aug. 6 primary who include Daniel Miller of Friday Harbor; Carrie Blackwood of Bellingham; Rud Browne of Bellingham; Greta I. Aitken of Burlington; and Michael Petrish of Anacortes. The district includes Anacortes and the San Juan Islands.
