September is “Careers in Retail” Month
For the third consecutive year, Gov. Jay Inslee has proclaimed September as Careers in Retail Month in Washington State.
As digital technology transforms retail, new job opportunities are developing in an industry that employs nearly 30 million Americans and 400,000 across the state. Nearly half of all retail employees now work in non-sales positions, from personal shoppers to computer programmers, data analysts and social media marketers. Nearly 8 in 10 retail employees say they are happy working in retail while 60% report they have earned promotions.
As part of the celebration, Washington Retail presents Mud Bay co-founder Marisa Wulff who will address the Thurston County Chamber of Commerce on September 11. Two days later, WR President/CEO Renee Sunde will help moderate a panel discussion on the Future of Retail in the Pacific Northwest. A free job fair will follow at Southcenter Mall’s Macy’s court.
