If the Legislature wants to give a little help to small businesses during this pandemic, please pass House Bill 1095. This measure would exempt Business and Occupation Tax being paid on grants received during the pandemic and for future emergencies.

This common-sense bill is prime sponsored by Representatives Amy Walen (D-Kirkland) and Matt Boehnke (R-Kennewick) at the request of the Washington State Department of Revenue.

Many small retailers are struggling to survive this pandemic – especially when they are limited to only operate at 25% capacity. Many of these businesses have accepted government grants to help pay their employees, pay the rent, and keep their doors open. It is a small gesture from the state to not tax these businesses on the grants they have received.

WR has testified in support of this important measure. We encourage all members of the legislature and the Governor to swiftly pass House Bill 1095.
