Under Phase 1 reopening, retailers in Washington are now free to conduct curbside sales if they comply with detailed safety protocols issued by Governor Jay Inslee.

The Governor’s new guidelines begin the process of ending the distinction between “essential” and “non-essential” retail. Washington Retail has worked with the Governor’s Office and the state Departments of Health and Commerce to develop these Phase 1 safety protocols that include social distancing, personal protective equipment, sanitation and health screening.

An aide to the Governor confirmed that stores in shopping malls can conduct curbside sales and pickup. WR continues to work with the Governor on protocols that will enable expanded retail activity in the upcoming Phases 2, 3, and 4 of the state’s gradual economic recovery.

In fact, Washington Retail has sent a letter to the Governor with ideas for the Phase 2 safety protocols. Since issuing his “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order late in March, Inslee has also relaxed restrictions on construction, outdoor recreation, and some elective surgeries.
