Governor issues proclamation to protect vulnerable employees
The financial impacts of the COVID-19 virus pandemic have complicated the obligations of employers and employees alike.
As a result, various state and local government departments have announced special, relaxed payment scheduled to help those who are financially stressed due to loss of income and other reasons. These pertain primarily to various taxes and insurance payments.
For example, the Internal Revenue Service has extended the traditional April 15 tax deadline this week to July 15.
In a separate action, Governor Jay Inslee has issued a proclamation to protect the jobs and incomes of employees categorized by the Centers for Disease Control as vulnerable to more serious infections. It includes employees age 65 and older and/or with underlying health conditions.
Here are other key examples:
- Tax relief for businesses: Dept. of Revenue, Employment Security, Labor & Industries, and the Internal Revenue Services
- For L&I’s Employer Assistance Program (defer payment for up to 90 days), they need to Contact Collections Education & Outreach by email at [email protected]; their respective account managers; and the collecting agent.
- Property Tax payment delay – some counties such as King, Kitsap, Pierce, Snohomish and Thurston, are extending an additional month for property tax payment.
