King County Dow Constantine has taken a commanding lead in early vote counts as he seeks election to a 4th term. He was challenged from the left by Democratic State Senator Joe Nguyen.

In another key King County race, incumbent Republican Councilmember Kathy Lambert is well behind her Democratic challenger, Sarah Perry. Lambert’s reelection campaign was upended by strong backlash against a mailer that many perceived as racist. As a result, The Seattle Times withdrew its endorsement of Lambert and the County Council stripped Lambert of her committee chairs. A win by Perry would give Democrats seven votes on the 9-member Council.
