While addressing a federal policy affairs summit this week, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (D-1) highlighted the importance of adopting national data privacy legislation.  She is the prime sponsor of House Resolution 2013 of which Congresswoman Kim Shrier (D-8) is also a co-sponsor.

DelBene and Shrier were among the participants at the 3rd Association of Washington Business Federal Affairs Summit in Richland, held at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

WR feels strongly a national approach to this important issue is vastly preferable than a piecemeal, state-by-state approach that will lead to customer confusion, difficulty with compliance and unnecessary costs to businesses.

We will be working with Congresswomen DelBene and Shrier and our national partners to advance legislation that both protects consumers and allows retailers and other businesses to serve their customers with the level of care they have come to expect.

Others who spoke at the event included U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell, U.S. Congresspersons Dan Newhouse (R-4), Derek Kilmer (D-6) and U.S. Department of Energy Under Secretary Mark Menezes.
