Since Lt. Governor Cyrus Habib announced he would not seek re-election later this year, his would-be successors have been announcing their candidacies.
Those who have announced this week include Republican lawyer and teacher Ann Davison Sattler and Democrat state Senators Steve Hobbs ad Marko Liias.
Habib announced last week that he would not seek re-election to become a Jesuit Catholic priest. The Lieutenant Governor serves for four years as President of the state Senate and fills in as acting Governor whenever the Governor leaves the state or is unable to serve. He or she also would accede to the governorship in case of a vacancy.
