Washington Retail has endorsed candidate Malcolm Miller for Lacey City Council for his pro-retail positions. He’s running for a seat vacated by three-term council member Jason Hearn.

“Lacey residents are paying retail taxes to Olympia,” Miller said. “We need to attract retailers to Lacey so that we can improve roads and services to our own residents, especially our youth and seniors.”

While Lacey’s population is nearly that of Olympia, Olympia generates 32% more in sales tax revenue, according to Employment Security Department and U.S. Census data.

Miller is a loan officer at Fairway Mortgage, a long-time community volunteer and a resident of Lacey City for 18 years. The Olympian newspaper also endorsed Miller because of his plan to improve lives for its young people and elders and for aligning with Lacey’s culture.

Rose Gundersen, Vice President of Operations and Retail Services, presented an endorsement check to Miller at a fundraiser last week.
