State Rep. Drew Stokesbary (R-Auburn) has introduced House Bill 2497 to re-enact a decades-old ban on local income taxes in Washington State.
The Legislature approved a ban in 1984 but a Court of Appeals last summer struck it down. A proposed Seattle income tax on wealthy residents is currently under appeals to the State Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Spokane and Spokane Valley have joined the City of Granger in south-central Washington in passing bans on local income taxes the past several months.
State voters have repeatedly turned down various income tax proposals as unconstitutional. The current appeals to the State Supreme Court is testing the belief that income taxes are unconstitutional.
Washington Retail Association members have joined state voters in traditionally being against income taxes anywhere in the state.
