After making a series of neighborhood walks recently, Mayor Jenny Durkan has addressed some findings in her weekly newsletter.

People attending have complained about a host of issues including homelessness, feeling unsafe and being unhappy with garbage being left loose in neighborhoods.

Durkan reports that Seattle police have been conducting pre-summer emphasis patrols including more officers on bikes and on foot. She said the city is working to act on feedback she and the staff have assembled from the walks.

Durkan also reported that the last count showed an eight percent reduction in the estimate of sheltered and unsheltered homeless.

Regardless, public frustration is high including the formation of a new political action committee that intends to support candidates to address crime and homelessness in this year’s city council elections.
