State legislators this year approved a record 17.5% increase in government spending despite steadily rising annual income from prior taxes.

The Democrat majority approved so many new taxes it can be challenging keeping it all straight. Paul Guppy, The Washington Policy Center’s Vice President for Research, has issued a five-page summary that wraps its arms around all the new spending and charges.

There will be higher school levies, higher taxes on home sales, a new tax on professional services, a new tax on banks, a new sales tax on out-of-state residents, a new tax on oil products and a new tax on workers. A couple other new taxes were considered but failed to pass in the 2019 session.
