Learn about fire extinguishers to increase safety

A fire extinguisher is a great and affordable business investment bound to pay off if a small fire were to occur in your office or shop. It’s also a good idea to post maps of extinguisher locations and escape routes to speed up response time.

The most common type, ABC fire extinguishers, will work on combustible materials, electrical and flammable liquids.  You should check on what your local code requirements are in regards to numbers to have on hand as well as placement height.

If you ever have to use a fire extinguisher, the P.A.S.S. system is an effective way to take care of a small fire.  P-pulling the pin. A-aim at the base of the fire.  S-squeeze the handle.  S-sweep side to side.  For a couple of short videos, click here.

You can ask your local Fire Department to provide a live demonstration.  Please make sure you include this as part of your new hire orientation.
