A record number of shoppers, 60%, told the National Retail Federation that they planned to do some of their holiday shopping online this year. NRF has been conducting the survey for 17 years.
Sixty-nine percent also told NRF that they had started holiday shopping in October and not as Black Friday nears the day after Thanksgiving.
Amazon, which normally runs its Prime Day discount promotions in July, delayed them until October. Various retailers who competed with Amazon last month effectively stretched the beginning of the holiday shopping season into October. Retailers such as Target, Best Buy, Walmart, Kohl’s, Lowe’s and Bed Bath & Beyond took Amazon head on during its Prime Day promotion.
