Washington Retail’s comprehensive 2020 Legislative Law Review has recently been sent to all dues-paying members. This is a confidential document that should only be shared internally with your teams. Please do not forward.

The Law Review is 32 pages long. The document represents the outcome of the 2020 Legislative Session including bills that passed and bills that failed that WR tracked and engaged on. Special thanks to our lobbying team and the WR members who participated on our weekly Policy and Government Affairs Session Conference Calls and helped represent retailers’ positions at the Capital.

The 2020 Session was billed as a simple adjustment period with no significant policy proposals being debated. However, lawmakers introduced 2,257 bills of which 378 passed. The Washington Retail reviewed all introduced bills and tracked 243.

Of particular note was our extensive work on the issue of “data privacy.” This all-encompassing subject would have impacted every retailer and every citizen in our state. The bill did not pass but the issue will be discussed and debated again next year.
