Washington Retail was on display at the 23rd Small Business Fair last week at Renton Technical College.

A total of 235 entrepreneurs and small business owners attended several workshops and strolled past 46 exhibits aimed at helping them to start and grow small businesses. I was the latest in a group of WR employees from earlier years who have attended the fair to discuss the services we can offer small businesses.

I explained our work with the Legislature, the variety of Retail Services programs and highlighted our Safe Me apps including mention of our Spanish-language version now in final development. Many attendees were complimentary about the program.

Said one: “This fair was incredible. It makes the daunting challenge of setting up a business more accessible. I feel so motivated to get rolling and start seeing results.”

Though Kari Gilje, the chair of the fair’s planning committee, is retiring this year, it is scheduled at the college on September 26 next year under the leadership of Seattle SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives). I wish to congratulate Kari and her volunteers for their years of dedication to making the fair an annual success.
