Reversing a 100-year trend, Seattle’s growth outpaced that of the King County suburbs from 2010 to 2020. Seattle’s 21.1% growth rate was its fastest since the 1940s.
The King County suburbs also grew briskly over the past decade. However, the 16% suburban growth rate was well below the 60% rate of the 1960s and the more than 100% rate experienced in the 1940s. The Eastside suburbs grew the fastest at 18.2%, followed by South King County at 14.2%. Vashon Island saw the slowest growth at 4.1%.
