Celebrating women in retail during Women’s History Month

Each March, Women’s History Month offers an opportunity to recognize the women whose leadership, innovation, and dedication have helped shape industries and strengthen communities. In the retail sector, women continue to play a powerful role, leading global companies, managing store operations, and building meaningful customer connections every day.

Retail is one of the largest and most dynamic industries in the country, offering opportunities for growth, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Across Washington State and the nation, women are helping guide some of the world’s most recognized retailers while mentoring the next generation of leaders.

Leaders such as Kecia Steelman of Ulta Beauty, Ann-Marie Campbell of The Home Depot, and Cara Sylvester of Target highlight the important role women play in shaping the future of retail. Steelman leads one of the country’s most successful beauty retailers, guiding strategy and growth in a highly competitive industry. Campbell’s career journey, from cashier to executive leadership, demonstrates the opportunities retail provides for advancement and leadership. Sylvester, as Target’s Executive Vice President and Chief Guest Experience Officer, oversees how millions of customers engage with the brand across stores and digital platforms, helping ensure a seamless and innovative shopping experience.

While these leaders represent some of the most visible examples of women shaping retail, they are joined by thousands of women working across the industry every day. From managing storefronts and coordinating supply chains to launching independent retail businesses, women bring creativity, resilience, and leadership that strengthens the entire retail ecosystem.

This Women’s History Month, the retail community celebrates the women who power the industry, from the sales floor to the executive suite. Their leadership continues to inspire future generations and reminds us that when women succeed in retail, businesses, communities, and the economy all benefit.
