State agencies offer anti trafficking workshop for Fan Zone Cities

The Washington Department of Commerce and the Attorney General’s Office, in partnership with Businesses Ending Slavery and Trafficking, are offering a free online strategy workshop for executives of tourism-impacted businesses in designated Fan Zone Cities as the state prepares to host matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

State officials note that large-scale events can bring increased risk of human trafficking, as crowded settings may create opportunities for criminal activity. Public-facing businesses are encouraged to prepare in advance by establishing clear policies and providing staff training to recognize and respond to potential signs of exploitation.

The interactive workshop will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. online. Registration closes Monday, February 23, 2026. Space is limited.

Participants will receive guidance on developing anti trafficking policies, establishing reporting protocols, and training frontline employees. The session also provides an opportunity for collaboration among businesses focused on community safety.

WR encourages members in Fan Zone Cities to consider participating to strengthen preparedness efforts ahead of increased visitor activity next summer.
