Violent crime crept upward in Seattle last year, reaching a 15-year high. Homicides jumped by 24%, and gun violence reached an all-time high, eclipsing the previous record set the year before.

Car thefts also soared by 30% above 2021 levels. The most targeted cars were Kia and Hyundai models. About 70% of the vehicles were found.

The report on annual crime statistics did reveal some good news. Bias incidents and hate crimes declined by 18% and 14%, respectively. Also, crime rates dropped in the 4 th quarter of last year. March saw the most crimes in 2022 and December the fewest. Can Seattle maintain that trend?
