Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan has nominated three people to Seattle’s Community Police Commission and expressed her intention to reappoint a current member to a new term.
The City Council will now consider Durkan’s nominations.
The commission provides ongoing, community-based oversight of the Seattle Police Department and police accountability system. When she was U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington, Mayor Durkan signed a consent decree that was part of a series of reforms in the police department.
The nominees are Asha Mohamed, Executive Director of the Somali Youth & Family Club; Erin Goodman, Executive Director of the SODO Business Improvement Area; Esther Lucero, Chief Executive of the Seattle Indian Health Board; and Rev. Harriet Walden, founder of Mothers for Police Accountability, for reappointment.
