Cami Feek has been named acting commissioner of the state Employment Security department following the January resignation of Suzi LeVine as commissioner.
Feek has been with ESD since 2017 when she was hired to design and launch the Paid Family and Medical Leave program. She began her state government career 25 years ago in a non-permanent role in a mailroom.
Prior to coming to ESD, Cami worked at the Department of Financial Institutions, General Administration (now Department of Enterprise Services), Washington State Patrol and the Attorney General’s Office under both Republican and Democratic attorneys general.
Feek assumes the leadership of a department that has undergone struggles and controversy in its efforts to close record unemployment insurance claims for employees who lost their jobs during the continuing coronavirus pandemic. The department also only partially recovered millions in benefits lost to an international online theft ring.
