Washingtonians have a lot to celebrate as June marks six months since the COVID-19 vaccine came to our state. The steady increases in people getting vaccinated have allowed a somewhat normal return to enjoyed activities just in time for the summer season.
According to the Department of Health (DOH) over 7.5 million vaccine doses have been administered so far and Washington ranks 7th highest in vaccine distribution in the nation. Over 47% of Washingtonians are now fully vaccinated. This means two weeks have passed since they received their final dose of COVID vaccine. By age range, the highest percent of fully vaccinated people — 75% — are those ages 65 and older. This fact isn’t a huge surprise since this was one of the earliest groups eligible for the vaccine. Currently, among the 16–17 age group, over 35% are fully vaccinated. With the Pfizer vaccine now authorized for emergency use for those 12 and over, more young people will be fully vaccinated in the weeks and months to come.
Retailers and businesses are reaping the benefits as they prepare for the state to fully reopen on June 30, and welcome more confident shoppers back into their stores.
